Menya Sandaime/ Shan Ding Mu/ Kiraku Izakaya @ Hongdae (Seoul)

We ate Japanese cuisine a couple of times while we were in Korea. These are three of the Japanese restaurants in Hongdae that we really liked!

1) Menya Sandaime

One of the most interesting menus I've seen

Photobucket
Black Ramen - 8000 won
The boss told us that the black ramen is only slightly spicy. But when I tasted it, I thought it was super spicy! But the spiciness fades as quickly as it hits you, but leaves a lingering sting in your throat. It was quite an experience I must say. The more you dig into this bowl of noodles, the more you'll love it

My ramen was sumptuous and the noodles were springy and nicely cooked.

Gyoza - 3000 won
The gyoza were blow-torched and they were absolutely yummy! Really loved the crispiness!

Ramen - 7000 won
X ordered this and it was so good! The soup carried the sweetness of corn. The sweetness did not overwhelm and it complemented the savory side of the soup really well!

Beef Rice Bowl -7000 won
I ordered this and spent most of the time moping about not ordering the ramen instead hahaha. Even though X offered to swop with me many times but NO, I am very noble to let him have the tasty soup. Haha the beef bowl was not too bad. The beef was tender and the sauce was pretty good

3) Kiraku Izakaya
It was almost midnight when X and I went food hunting. We walked for what seemed like a really long time before we chanced upon this

Photobucket
We decided to give it a shot since everything else that was open didn't really appeal to us.

Photobucket

Photobucket
I don't know what these were exactly but they were DELICIOUS. We had them refilled like 5 times hahaha too good.

Photobucket
We had trouble conversing with the waitress and we tried to order "soup" and "rice" so this is what we got. At first, when the pot first arrived, I was like.... Err doesn't look very nice

Photobucket

But don't judge a book by its cover! The soup was a little on the sticky side but it was yummy. The rice blocks had a sort of burnt taste that added more flavour to the soup. Also, the portion of seafood was very generous!

This was surprisingly good and X really enjoyed it haha

Keisuke Tonkotsu King

X chose a dinner venue but he didn't tell me where we were going. At first, he said we were going to MBS, then when we reached Craig Road, he told me that we're gonna eat at some famous Peranakan restaurant. What a liar haha. Then finally, we reached Keisuke Tonkotsu King! We were greeted by the really long queue and waited for close to an hour to get into the restaurant.

Black Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen Special - $15.80
The soup was really tasty! The hint of spiciness grows on you!

Tonkotsu Ramen Special - $14.80
The noodles had a great texture. And the soup was yummy. The tamago was nicely cooked with a runny yolk. We each had an extra tamago!

Photobucket
Biggest piece of chasyu ever. How generous!

The long queue at Keisuke Tonkotsu King is definitely justified. They have one of the best ramen in Singapore! Also, the portion was pretty huge. We were both extremely full. The tasty soup left us really thirsty afterwards though. Haha. The service was pretty efficient and we received our food shortly after we were seated.

If you're a ramen-lover, you've gotta try the ramen here!

The owner of the roasting house could converse fluently in English and he took time to chat with us despite being busy with roasting the beans. Sitting in the aroma of coffee beans, sipping awesome coffee, watching time pass by. Such is the life.

Two Blur Guys

Two Blur Guys is located at Orchid Hotel. We chanced upon it while we were making our way to our dinner destination. Their menu consists of blurgers (burgers) and desserts.

Photobucket

We had our dinner already so we packed a lemon tart to go! I love lemon tarts! So when I saw this, and it was the last one left, I was like "I WANT IT" Haha
Photobucket
Lemon Curd Tart - $4.50
The tart was very full and there was a great amount of curd haha. The curd was a little too sour for us but it was refreshing and I like the subtle hint of sweetness. Also, the hard crust coated with chocolate was yummy!

Will be back to try their burgers!

Myeong Dong Kyoja @ Myeongdong (Seoul)

Myeong Dong Kyoja is located in Myeong Dong haha. It's a very famous chopped noodle house and it was really crowded when we got there in the afternoon.

Photobucket

They only have like 4 items on their menu so they already pre-printed the receipts so they will just give them to you right after you've placed your orders.

We order 2 bowls of chopped noodles and a basket of their dumplings.

10 dumplings! They essentially tasted the same as the ones in the noodles haha

Photobucket
The chopped noodles which were really smooth and had a fantastic texture. Probably the nicest noodles I've had! The soup was light yet tasty. The portion is really really big! So much noodles and there were 4 dumplings! I couldn't finish it! Haha we were saying that we shouldn't have ordered the basket of dumplings.

Service was pretty efficient. Their kimchi was SUPER spicy. So we didn't eat them haha. They go around serving free rice too but we were too full to take them haha. Overall, a great and satisfying meal!
