Path Restaurant MBFC
Took me a long time to finally put this list here(I don't know why) but here are my favourite restaurants in Singapore, and obviously the best restaurants in Singapore to me.
I might have forgotten some great places, but will update this post as I go along!

I have personally eaten at all of these places before, so I hope you'll like them too! Places that I have highlighted are places that I have revisited.

(CLOSED)Big Lazy Chop @ Short Street (Selegie)

photo Big Lazy Chop Short Street 6.jpg
Six months old Big Lazy Chop might not be situated at the most easily located or eye-catching spot but it is actually pretty near town. It's just a short walk away from the famous Rochor Beancurd at Selegie. There's ample parking in the compound and the 90-seater has both an alfresco and air-conditioned area. At the helm of the kitchen is Chef Oh, who has more than 37 years of experience whipping up palate-pleasing fare. He has come up with around 30 sauces that diners can pair with meat or seafood options. The Salted Egg Yolk XL Spare Ribs ($20) is one of the most popular items here and I urge you to give these gigantic ribs a go!

Mellben Signature - Delightful Tze Char at Tanjong Pagar Plaza

 photo mellben signatures 9.jpg
Mellben is irrefutably one of the hottest names in town when it comes to crabs or tze char. I've been to Mellben once in 2012, and I fell so deeply in love with the soup of their claypot crab bee hoon that I insisted on taking away the rest of the soup, so that I could have it for supper. I haven't been back since because the north just seems too far for me. Hence, you can imagine my happiness when I learnt that they now have an outlet at Tanjong Pagar!

Lai Huat Signatures @ Far East Square

 photo laihuatsignature4.jpg
Lai Huat Signatures is a casual dining tze char restaurant in the heart of the central business district. It proves to be a great place for after-work gatherings and regulars can now get a taste of their favourite Sambal Fish at a more centralised location, instead of having to go all the way to East Coast!

Whampoa Keng Fishhead Steamboat @ Rangoon Road

 photo whampoakeng.jpg
Whampoa Keng isn’t just well known for its steamboat and zi char dishes but also for its amusing yet illustrious history. The business started as a single hawker stall and has since become two restaurants, a collective of successful food outlets and a catering operation. The two restaurants are located along Balestier Road and Rangoon Road and they’re both managed by the founder’s first and second wife respectively.

Ah Lim Zi Char & Fish Head Steamboat

Media Invite

 photo P9238146.jpg
A new venture by the owner of The Lawn, Jonathan, and his family, Ah Lim Zi Char sits in a coffeeshop at Wcega Plaza. A huge space serving mainly the office crowd in the day, the coffeeshop is quieter come night time and might just be the ideal space for large groups to enjoy a tze char meal!

Beaulieu House

It was Valentines' Day but we didn't have plans because X said that we'd celebrate it on Saturday!
We just decided to go for a simple dinner but had a hard time deciding where to go as we'd expected everywhere to be really crowded. The smartypants came up with the idea of visiting Beaulieu House all the way at Sembawang. Haha and so here we were

We had to sit indoors as the outdoor seats were reserved for couples who were having the Valentines' couple set. It's priced at $138++ if I'm not wrong.

I was hoping that they'd have Western food but they said that they only have Western food if we ordered the sets. Ala-carte wise, there's only Chinese food.

Food was served pretty quickly after we placed our orders.

Seafood Fried rice - $10
The fried rice was pretty average but there was really little ingredients, especially eggs

Photobucket
Chicken with Thai Sauce - $12
The chicken was crispy and we quite liked it.

Photobucket
The thai sauce had a really strong lemongrass taste which may be too overwhelming for some

Photobucket
Salted egg yolk squid -$14
The squid tasted more like butter squid.
There was a strong taste of butter and hardly any eggyolk ):

We took a walk after dinner

This is Beaulieu House for you. Pretty, serene and peaceful but food isn't that great. We spent 40++ after drinks, gst and service charge. Staff were attentive, helpful and efficient.

We liked the place. So beautifully hidden and just a stone's throw away from the sea.
It's quite an ideal place to bring your loved ones!

Sum Kee Food

I've heard much about Sum Kee Food but I've never had the chance to try it til recently! Four of us headed down to Sum Kee which had just relocated from river valley to telok blangah. X and I had a little trouble locating the place but it is actually really accessible as it is right next to the main road.

We have with us guest food tasters C and H on this visit!

Watercress soup which was yummy! I've never liked watercress soup as I feel that the taste of the veggie is always too overwhelming. It wasn't so for Sum Kee's! And I enjoyed it.

Photobucket
Ultra Man Chicken.
This was our favourite dish! C felt that it is an excellent dish to go with beer while the rest of us just liked it very much. My personal favourite of all the dishes! You'll like it too if you like salted egg yolk!

Photobucket

Sunny tofu which C read as skinny tofu haha.
Braised tofu topped with pork floss. We all agreed that the tofu was too bland

Photobucket
Curry fish head!
Sum Kee is well known for their curry fish head!
H said that the ladyfingers and eggplant were cooked to perfection and the curry was good as it wasn't too milky. X said that it was definitely one of the better curry fishheads he's ever tried. As for myself, I can't really take stuff that is too spicy but this was just right for me. It was spicy but not too spicy. Haha and so, I liked it!

Photobucket
Sweet and sour pork
The dish that can never go wrong.

Overall, X, H and I enjoyed our dinner at Sum Kee whereas C was pretty harsh on his comments on all the dishes. Well, he's harsh on almost everything in life hahaha. Oh yeah X and I ordered barley which was too diluted but the staff changed his drink for him when he brought it to their attention [:

Do check out Sum Kee for their famous curry fish head and ultraman chicken!

Two Chefs

Two Chefs has been around for a pretty long time and I've been there quite a number of times. I simply can't get enough of their signature dishes. Of course I'll have to share such joy with The Star so one night I brought The Star there for dinner! Being a mountain tortoise he doesn't know Two Chefs exist(DUH) HAHAHA kidding

We love cockles and Two Chefs' cockles are a notch above any other cockles you would have eaten. Drunken cockles, served cold. The savory sauce, garlic and the yummy cockles, this dish sings! We can polish off 2 plates each! Haha lets just say it's so good we went back a few more times, JUST for the cockles. Haha

Sorry for the blur photo.. The photo doesn't do justice to this dish at all. Their famous dish : BUTTER PORK RIBS. I looooove it. Love how the chunks of buttery powder goes so well with the crispy pork. Trust me, you'll fall in love with this too. MUST TRY

This is another of their signature dishes. Its something like golden tofu with mushroom or something. Can't remember the name but yeah its tofu with golden mushrooms! I think it's just pretty normal.

Omelette with prawns. A common and simple dish which tastes yeah, average.

Two Chefs is the ideal place for dinner for a small group! Affordable and delicious! Butter pork ribs butter pork ribs butter pork ribs.. The thought of it is making me drool.. Can't wait to go there for dinner again soon!
