Griglia Open Fire Italian Kitchen - New Restaurant on Craig Road Brings You a Taste of an Outdoor Italian Barbecue

Griglia_Craig_Road_singapore_menuGriglia, the new kid on Craig road, aims to transport diners to a 'grigliata' — an outdoor barbecue party that the Italians often indulge in with their loved ones. It's always a hearty affair; everyone brings along fresh produce and throws them onto the grill over a strong fire fueled by charcoal. When produce is that fresh, all you need is a light sprinkling of salt and some top quality olive oil to bring out the best in them. And that's exactly what Griglia is all about. The menu is centered on dishes cooked on a custom-made cast iron grill flown in from Russia, and diners can expect unique dishes built with lightly-seasoned ingredients that are reminiscent of the "mix and match" concept typically observed at grigliatas where attendees pile their plates with anything they desire from the grill.

Burnt Ends - More Than Deserving of Their One Michelin Star

burnt_ends_singapore
It's been a dream of mine to dine at Burnt Ends, but I could never get a table. So when Miss Tam Chiak wanted to have lunch, I thought I would just try my luck again. And guess what! We scored a table for 2, just 2 days before our lunch date. I know, I know, it's crazy luck! I couldn't believe it myself. I had to double check my booking multiple times. I arrived a couple of minutes before our reservation, and was asked politely to wait outside as they got our counter seats ready. I WAS BEYOND EXCITED. There must have been a cancellation because we were moved from the bar seats to the counter! What a treat!

Pictured here is the magnificent Burnt Ends Sanger. Think extremely flavourful pulled pork packed between two pillowy-soft fluffy buns. Just look at the ratio of meat to bun! Every bite was an explosion of flavours and a party in my mouth! Too good, just too good. I have been dreaming about this, and I will definitely be back soon for this gorgeous creation, and also those Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Hakumai - Inexpensive Sushi Omakase in Tanjong Pagar

 photo Hakumai Singapore.jpg
Omakase in Singapore definitely doesn't come cheap. We are talking about the ones which have perfected the sushi rice, the ones that use premium and fresh ingredients, and the ones who know how best to highlight the pristine flavours of each type of fish. Sushi omakase has long been stereotyped as a meal that will burn a deep hole in your pocket. Shinji, Hashida, and Tatsuya are some of the big names that most frequently pop into our minds when the word 'omakase' is mentioned. Dinner at any of these dining establishments will set you back at least $300 - $500. Hence, people always think that a good omakase meal is out of their reach, and budget. However, that is certainly not the case.

Hakumai offers both omakase and kaiseki. There are two types of omakase available — sushi omakase($68.80), and omakase course(market price)

Ryo Sushi - Best Value For Money Omakase in Singapore

photo Ryo Sushi Orchid Hotel 5.jpg
Those who love Japanese food, particularly sushi, should be no stranger to Ryo Sushi. Even if you have not dined here before, you would most probably have heard of their amazingly-priced omakase sets. Omakase dinners have long been known to be expensive, with the prices hitting $350 per pax (before taxes) at most of the established and esteemed Japanese restaurants on our sunny little island. Shinji is one of the places where most people dream of dining at, but a meal there will cause significant damage to your piggy bank. If you're thinking of going for an awesome omakase dinner, but not keen on splurging that much, Ryo Sushi is undoubtedly the place for you.

#WTF - The New Kid at 49 Club Street

 photo wtf 49 club street.jpg
So, 49 Club Street used to be the home of Drinks & Co, a place where I frequent more than I would like to admit. Drinks & Co has shifted a few doors down, with a refreshed concept. In its place is now #WTF. I wanted to have a look at their menu but the place seemed packed so I didn't really want to go in but one of their staff spoke to us and told us that there is no service charge here. Now, I have to go in and have a look, right?

The menu here is ever-changing but it always has 28 ingredients listed on it. The chefs base their creations on seasonal produce and they mix and match different ingredients from the 28 to create new dishes all the time. The Populus Coffee & Food Co. @ 146 Neil Road

photo populus coffee cafe neil road 14.jpg
My fourth visit to Populus was an immense treat. I have been raving about their Spring Onion Pancake and Fried Chicken since my first trip there and I was so happy that we were gonna have it that evening too! Populus has been around for just about six months but everytime I'm there, they're always packed. That says alot about them, doesn't it? I had expected the place to be quieter during dinner time but I was wrong. Populus is truly, popular.
