Super fluffy, super soft, super custardy Japanese-style French toast made with just 5 ingredients??? Yes, you heard that right. It's super delicious, by the way.
Prep time : 10 minutes
Waiting time : 2 hours
Cooking time : 15 minutes
Ingredients :
For French Toast :
- Shokupan (I got mine from Desem bakery)
- 4 large eggs (I used Chew's Omega 3 Fresh Eggs)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (I used SIS caster sugar)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (I used Lee Kum Kee)
- 200ml cooking cream (I used Emborg)
For Pan-Frying :
- Butter (I used Lurpak)
Toppings :
- Maple syrup (I used Hampton House)
Optional toppings:
- Whipped cream
- Icing sugar
- Berries
- Banana
Steps :
- Trim edges off shokupan and slice it into 6-8 pieces
- Mix eggs, sugar, soy sauce, and cooking cream with a whisk or electric mixer till well combined
- Place sliced shokupan in egg mixture in a flat pan, let shokupan soak up the egg custard for 2 hours in the fridge(very important!!!)
- Melt butter in frying pan over low heat, add shokupan to pan.
- Check the bottom of the bread occasionally, turn up heat a little to get a nice brown char
- Flip over and do the same for all edges
- Serve with maple syrup, and optional toppings if you like
Enjoy!!!
