Shinjuku Kappo Nakajima - Traditional Japanese Dinner at the "Cheapest" Michelin-Starred Restaurant in Tokyo

Have been dying to dine here ever since I heard that it's the cheapest One-Michelin-Starred establishment in Tokyo. Everyone raves about their sardine lunch sets which are insanely affordable. Because I didn't do my research properly, I made a booking here for dinner, thinking that the sardine sets will be available too. Unfortunately, the sardine sets are only available during lunch and the queues are crazy everyday. So, I unknowingly booked myself a traditional Japanese dinner at this fine-dining restaurant.

To be very honest, I'm not really a big fan of Kaiseki or  traditional Japanese cuisine. Mainly because I don't know how to appreciate it, I guess. One thing I know, though, is that traditional Japanese cuisine highlights the quality of the produce and the traditional cooking methods always allow the natural flavours of the produce to shine.

I spent 9504 JPY(about $120SGD) on dinner. While it wasn't the most satisfying dinner for me, it was still good! The flavours are light, but just enough to bring out the freshness and natural goodness of the ingredients used. The dishes look simple, and are unpretentious, but they still have an air of sophistication and a beautifully-executed feel about them. With a Michelin star tagged to their name, the restaurant must be doing something right. For those who are craving for a traditional Japanese meal in Tokyo, make a reservation here! The meal won't break the bank, and may just be what you're looking for.
