Tucked away in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki, is the famous and iconic Hitachi Seaside Park that draws thousands of tourists and locals throughout the year. The park is located on the Pacific Ocean side of the Japanese coast and occupies a total area of 350 hectares. Japan experiences four seasons a year, and the Hitachi Seaside Park reflects the transition and change of season through the blooms that span the vast land. The blue flowers that you see here are called Nemophila. They appear in April and stay for about a month. The park is blanketed in a variety of colours(depending on which flower is in bloom at that moment) as the seasons come and go. If you're wondering what other flowers you can spot here, Hitachi Seaside park sees the full glory of roses, tulips, kochia, poppies, sunflowers, and more! So, you gotta be sure which flowers you wanna catch before you plan your trip!

Ibaraki prefecture is considered to be quite near Tokyo, and you can get to Mito(the capital city) by hopping on a bus from Tokyo Station. The journey is about 2 hours, and costs around 2250yen. This is a good way to get to Mito if you're planning to stay at least a night in the city!

Alternatively, you can take a train from Tokyo Station to Katsuta Station before hopping on a bus which will take you to the Hitachi Seaside Park. It should take you just a little more than 2 hours to get to the park from Tokyo, and the journey costs around 4220yen.

After you purchase an admission ticket (450yen) and start walking to the gates of the park, you'll realise that the park is huge, and it will take quite awhile for you to get to the flowers on foot. Just follow the crowd, and you won't go wrong!

As you can tell, there were no clouds in the sky, so even though the temperature was below 20, it was pretty hot. Bring along sunblock and shades!

After you've snapped enough photos with the adorable blue flowers, take a slow stroll around the park, grab an icecream, and admire the other flowers! The park is really huge, so you can definitely explore a little. There's even a ferris wheel, an amusement park, an observation lake and a BMX course.

If you're thinking of visiting the Hitachi Seaside Park, I'll recommend that you spend a night in Mito. Visit Tsukuba Wan Wan Land where you can cuddle with dozens of cute doggos, and go for a lovely dinner at Kaniya if you decide to stay in town! We'll be coming up with an Ibaraki guide soon, so stay tuned!
