Sushi Jin - One of the Best Omakase Dinners in Singapore

 photo Sushi Jin Omakase 1.jpg
I'm not an expert when it comes to omakase dinners, especially when I haven't dined at the big names. Shinji, Hashida, Sushi Jiro, and Shoukouwa are on my list but till my bank account is fuller, I won't be able to indulge in a dinner at any of these establishments. I have, however, been on the lookout for awesome omakase dinners that come with a more pocket-friendly price tag. In recent times, I've dined at Ryo Sushi twice, and Hakumai. And now, Sushi Jin by the Les Amis Group.

Located at Farrer Park, Sushi Jin sits in a relatively quiet mall.

I went for the $180 Omakase set. The first course was already a delight!

Sashimi platter! Just look at that chunk of otoro! The sashimi slices were thick, and of pristine freshness. There's even uni and caviar!

The Kani Korayaki was essentially grilled crab meat with white sauce. I loved the creamy sauce, which was flavoured by the sweetness of the crab meat. The lovely "crust" was a joy to tuck into too.

I have absolutely no complaints about the Wagyu Teppan (A4 Kagoshima Wagyu) which just melted in my mouth. So fatty, so good. Don't you think that the portion is more than generous?

The ultimate indulgence — torched otoro, negitoro, ikura, uni, and caviar. The ensemble just melted in my mouth. The play on textures and flavours captured my heart, and I was just awestruck. So incredibly delicious! Ten more please!

This was another creation that was pretty outstanding. Lightly charred rice, fresh prawns and a handsome dollop of roe. Loved the firmness and light crunch of the prawn, and the tasty rice!

When I was told that this was the last sushi of the evening, I was actually really sad. It had been such a wonderful meal so far. Sushi Jin surely knows how to end a show on a high note. The final piece of sushi was a solid outfit of scallop, foie gras, and uni. Can you imagine taking a bite of this glorious piece that looks almost too pretty to eat? I was way too excited to dive into this, and had really high expectations. Unfortunately, I have to say that it was a little underwhelming as the strong taste of foie gras masked the sweetness of the scallops and distinct taste of uni. While this was undoubtedly a luxurious treat, the individual ingredients did not shine.

Really sweet Japanese melon and persimmons to round off the meal!

To be very honest, $180++ for an omakase meal of this standard is quite a huge bang for the buck. Sushi Jin certainly is not stingy when it comes to the incorporation of premium ingredients into their omakase dinner. I've heard really good things about the wagyu don here, so I'll be back for it!
