The Reading Room Cafe - Newly Launched Weekend Brunch
The Reading Room has been around for four years now and the quaint little cafe is a book cafe by day, and bar by night. The cafe is stocked full of books and vintage decorations. There's a little piece of Paris in this place and I like that very much.
It was a Sunday afternoon, and the cafe was packed. For a snug cafe, The Reading Room sure boasts an impressive menu. The menu is really extensive and we deliberated for a really long time over what to order.
I learnt that the Himalayan Salt Latte is one of the signature drinks here and decided to give it a shot. Apart from the pretty crockery, the latte was surprisingly smooth, robust and that hint of saltiness was just alluring.
My dining companion had a cup of Matcha Cappuccino and she was full of praise for it!
We wanted the portobello fries but they were sold out so we went for the Deep-fried Mushrooms ($12.80). The juicy mushrooms were encased in a paper-thin batter and were exceedingly addictive. I'm sure you wouldn't be able to get enough of it too!
A special addition on the menu that week, the Braised Oxtail Ragu with Pappardelle($24.80) wasn't the finest in presentation but the red wine-braised oxtail with fresh pasta was quite a match made in heaven.
We wanted to give their newly launched weekend brunch items a try and the Norwegian Royale ($22.80) was calling out to us. The presentation was a little strange to us, as we are used to eggs being on top and covered in hollandaise instead. I also felt that the hollandaise sauce was a little too thick. The ikura was a nice touch though!
The Breakfast Burger ($24.80) was an indulgent mix of 180g Aussie beef patty, bacon, smoked cheddar, 2 fluffy french toast slices, overeasy egg, maple syrup, hashbrown and salad. This was quite a letdown as the slices of bread were really soggy, and the egg was overcooked. This needs a little tweaking, and it might just be a stunner.
This is my second time at The Reading Room and I still like the atmosphere. Looking for a nice place to read a book? The Reading Room might be right up your alley!
