(CLOSED)Hidden Flavours of Bangkok's Sois @ Nara Thai

Nara Thai has scoured the streets of Bangkok and uncovered hidden gems that are not commonly seen in restaurants. These dishes are enjoyed mostly by locals, and Nara Thai has decided to share these well-kept secrets with all of us. Adding 14 new dishes to their already extensive menu, there is definitely something for everyone here.

Mushroom Salad - $14.90
Don't belittle this seemingly harmless heap of Julienned oyster mushrooms and brown clamshell mushrooms. The mushrooms soak up the spicy garlic chilli dressing and every bite delivers a fiery punch. While it was over-the-top spicy for me, it was actually pretty enjoyable.

Seafood and Coconut Otah - $16.90
This was so incredibly aromatic and the strong fragrance of coconut will make your stomach growl incessantly. I couldn't wait to dig into it! It was, however, a little disappointing as the otah was wet and mushy and lacked that distinct taste of otah. A surprise awaits as the blanket of otah breaks apart to reveal a bed of seafood. While I find the entire creation unique and couldn't get enough of how good it smelt, it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

Fried Whole Sea Bass with Basil Sauce - $32.90
Surprisingly, my favourite dish of the day was a fish dish. The fish was fresh and possessed a subtle sweetness. It paired up really well with the special basil sauce and if you love an extra spicy kick, help yourself to the generous topping of hot basil leaves and sliced chilli.

Stir-fried Tom Yum Tiger Prawns - $28.90
The crunchy prawns could have used a stronger tom yum flavour. I mean, if I were to complain that the flavour is weak, I'm sure most people would feel the same.

Fried Century Egg with Chilli & Hot Basil (Pork)- $15.90
This dish is yet another killer item that promises bouts of spiciness designed to set your tastebuds on fire. The fried century egg lent a hand in mitigating the spiciness of the dish and complemented the pork very well. Grab a bowl of their signature Blue Butterfly Pea rice to go along and you're in for quite a hearty meal.

Yam & Pumpkin in Lychee Coconut Cream - $7.90
Lychee-infused bubur cha cha about sums up the taste of this newly launched dessert. The taste of lychee is quite strong but it isn't overwhelming. The warm dessert adequately soothes the burning sensations in your stomach and quells any lingering spiciness on your tongue. It may taste odd at first as it is quite an unusual union but it does grow on you.

While the new dishes aren't spectacular, they do make pretty decent lunch or dinner options.
