Teppan Bar Q @ Robertson Walk (Unity Street)

photo Teppar Bar Q Robertson Walk 8.jpg
It's been at least seven years since I've had teppanyaki I think? I remember the entire experience being particularly enjoyable, watching the chefs whip up a storm right in front of us. Three months old Teppan Bar Q is a contemporary teppanyaki restaurant focused on authentic Hakata Teppanyaki dishes. If you're looking to have a teppanyaki dinner in a fun and lively setting, read on to find out more!

Roasted Hakata Mentai - $12.90
As a big fan of all things mentaiko, I was rubbing my hands in excitement as Chef carefully prepared the first dish of the night. This is vastly different from the mentaiko dishes that everyone has been raving about. It is nothing like your mentaiko pasta or mentaiko fries. These are little blocks of fresh unadulterated roe packed full of flavour. The bite-sized treat is really salty and honestly, a tad difficult to ingest. Would have loved for a side of carbs to even out the saltiness.

Octopus Galician Style - $13.90
A never-seen-before combination for me but no doubt, an interesting and tasty one. The octopus is well-cooked and well-seasoned, and it is neither rubbery nor chewy. The bed of potato is a nice touch, be it in texture, or balancing out the flavours of the octopus.

Foie Gras with Daikon - $26.80
The show-stopping dish that took my breath away was the luxurious foie gras with a thin crisp crust. The velvety smooth liver was absolutely delish but what really surprised me was that it was paired with a piece of daikon soaked in dashi broth. The pairing was unexpected but brilliant. However, the portion is small and it is pretty pricey.

Tonpei Yaki with Rice Cake & Cheese - $25.90
Teppan Bar Q takes the classic dish from Osaka up a notch with the addition of cheese and rice cake. Egg, bacon, cheese and rice cake. Doesn't that mix sound enticing already? The final product is topped with homemade plum-infused soymilk mayonnaise and okonomiyaki sauce. The whole get-up was rich, creamy and quite a sweet symphony.

US Angus Ribeye Steak - $58.90(200g)

A gorgeous slab of beef that was a little too "done" for my liking but mouthwatering nonetheless. While there were three accompanying sauces, I preferred the steak in its natural glory. Definitely a dish I'll recommend if you're popping by for dinner.

Vanilla Icecream Kinako - $6.90
The quality of the vanilla icecream exceeded expectations and was brought to life by the incorporation of kinako powder and brown sugar syrup. You must not leave without having this!

The chefs are humorous and fun so dining here would definitely be an entertaining experience. I'll suggest going for the set dinner and pairing it with a glass of wine or sake.
