Nostalgic Dim Sum buffet @ Si Chuan Dou Hua (PARKROYAL on Kitchener)

Chef Wen Xin Wen is bringing back a taste of the olden days by recreating dimsums that were popular in the past. I wasn't expecting 50 dishes on the buffet menu and I definitely wasn't expecting the buffet to only cost $32- $38 per adult. Needless to say, I was immensely impressed by the selection and quality of the food. If you love yourself a good dimsum spread that is beyond value-for-money, I think you shouldn't miss this one

I was in awe of his tea-pouring skills. He knows exactly when and how to tilt that long spout to get the tea shooting out so quickly but never splashing out of your tea cup.

The buffet spread prepared by Chef Wen includes a wide range of cold appetizers, dimsum, barbecued items, soups, porridge, rice, noodles, chef's selection and dessert.

Double-boiled Cartilage Soup
The soup was painstakingly prepared for hours, resulting in intense flavours and that slightly viscous texture sat really well with me. So smooth, so nourishing and such a comforting start to the meal

Signature Pork Belly with Yam
Honestly, most of the dishes were all pretty yum but I had my favourite few and this was one of them! Love the flavours and that light touch of yam

Siew Mai with Diced Abalone
I'm not usually a fan of siew mais but this "long" of photogenic siew mais had a great bite and actually managed to entice me to reach for seconds

Stir-fried Sliced Fish in Si Chuan Spicy Sauce

Stir-fried Beef in Black Bean Sauce

Steamed Yam Paste Bun with Salted Egg Yolk
I'm one of the many who have a weakness for anything salted egg yolk. When I cut open the pau, I was expecting golden lava to flow out. However, the yam pau had a real firm ball of salted egg yolk in its centre instead of the molten one I was hoping for. Nonetheless, it was still quite enjoyable

Pan-fried Duck Meat Bun with Goose Liver Sauce

Homemade Beancurd with Wolfberry (Warm)
As the name of the restaurant goes, this is the signature and highlight of the establishment. The captivating silky smooth texture will have you swooning for sure

Homemade Beancurd with Wolfberry (Cold)
The cold version comes with a scoop of black sesame icecream which adds a creamy sweetness to the beancurd. I'm not huge on sesame in general but this was awesome

This buffet is, in all honesty, one of the better dimsum buffets that I've tried. Really value-for-money, don't you think? As if it wasn't already a deal that is almost too good to be true, UOB and HSBC credit cardholders get to dine free with every three accompanying guests!
