(CLOSED) Salt Tapas & Bar @ Raffles City

 photo P7065799.jpg
I had a wonderful experience at Salt Grill & Sky Bar awhile back and have always been meaning to pay a visit to Salt Tapas & Bar. And finally, finally, I did and my evening here was nothing short of amazing too. Sitting prominently outside of Raffles City, Salt Tapas seems to carry more of a chill vibe with the whole alfresco thing going on but the interior is classy and cosy at the same time.

With a revamped menu that promotes communal dining, patrons can look forward to new dishes that come in supersized versions, meant for sharing.

The Australian - $18
The signature cocktail here with hints of ginger and cinnamon. They carry a crazy extensive range of wines too!

Pork Belly sliders, pickled cucumber & chilli- $13
One of the bestsellers and most popular dishes, the sliders have pork belly, which is sous vide overnight at 95 degrees to ensure its juiciness and tenderness, sandwiched in them. As adorable as these sliders are, they pack quite a punch

Taco of tempura prawn, pineapple salsa, chipotle mayo- $12
This is another of their bestsellers but I thought it was somewhat forgettable with the tempura prawn being pretty bland. Despite the myriad of flavours present from the salsa and chipotle, they didn't quite save the tasteless prawn

Haloumi, eggplant, chickpea, dried tomatoes, herbs and tahini dressing- $13
I skipped the vegetables and had a bite of the haloumi and well, obviously, all I tasted was brined cheese that was a little hard to take on its own. The vegetables are supposed to balance out that saltiness and the dried tomatoes had icing sugar dusted onto them before they are dried so they are supposed to be really sweet. For a vegetable lover, this is probably a really awesome dish but not for a carnivore like me. My partner-in-crime for the day really liked it though!

Bone marrow with shitake duxelle, holland potato and garlic toast- $20
Sitting pretty on a bed of sea salt is a fantastic interpretation of the bone marrow, which was enlivened by the clever pairing of various flavours and contrasting textures. We enjoyed this very much!

Paella of prawns, mussels, squid, chorizo, chicken, prosciutto, saffron rouille - $26
A little mushier than the usual paella out there, the one at Salt Tapas comes in two different sizes and was very palatable. And I happen to have a weakness for paella, so this was quite a stunner for me

Pork to Share- Pork ribs with sauteed peas, edamame and mash, pickled onions
One word : Mind-blowing. I have had so many ribs in my life but I've never met ribs like these. Insanely tender and juicy, the meat falls off the bones so effortlessly it's amazing. Covered in a blanket of homemade barbecue sauce that had a slight tangy edge and great consistency, I can safely say that this is the best ribs I've had in Singapore thus far. I was so stuffed by then but the ribs were so good I just couldn't resist them

Gooey chocolate tart with mango sorbet- $12
I was bursting at the seams but I activated my dessert stomach for this. Love the rich, warm and smooth gooey chocolate centre that sits in an awesome tart crust. It was paired with a homemade mango sorbet which is pretty uncommon so I asked Chef Ronald about his choice of sorbet and he explained that he felt that the mango flavour complements the richness of the chocolate perfectly. Well, he's right!

Churros - $14
Churros have gotta be one of the most sought after dessert or food this year and Salt does a pretty good rendition of it. The churros had a thin and crisp exterior and a fluffy inside that wasn't doughy.
And there we have warm chocolate and cold whipped cream to go along with these delightful sugar-coated treats. I wasn't surprised at all when I learnt that the churros here sell like hotcakes!

It was a Monday night and the restaurant was almost at full capacity and I'm sure this speaks volumes about the quality of the food and alcoholic beverages here. Do share with me your thoughts if you drop by for dinner or even their weekday set lunches! Rumour has it that they will be launching high tea soon too! They're doing some small renovations currently and will open their doors tomorrow at 1130am so be sure to check their new space out!

*This was a media tasting
