Media Invite

The Missing Pan is a popular brunch spot and the snaking queue for brunch on weekends proves how famous their sous vide eggs and French toast are. Just a week ago, The Missing Pan introduced a brand new menu that boasts of delicious fare that absolutely calls for a dinner visit. And may I advise that you pop by soon, before the place gets too crowded to even score a reservation!

Ginger Swing - $6
Pinky Guava - $6

This refreshing and large glass of Ginger Swing was a great choice to accompany me through the fulfilling dinner

Chargrilled Squid - $12
Marinated in a secret house seasoning before lightly grilled, the squid impressed with its slightly spicy flavour and soft texture. It's a little chewy, but not rubbery at all. And as if this wasn't already magical enough, it was further enlivened by the lemon butter sauce

Seared Sea Bass - $16
I have never been a fish person. And I'll never order a fish dish ever. But this sea bass kinda changed that. The Sea Bass had a lightly crisp skin and the meat was soft but firm and it was very well-flavoured. The dill cream sauce complements the fresh sea bass really well too. Complete with mushroom and spinach ragout and decorated with colourful edible flowers, this was such a cheery dish!

Oven Baked Slipper Lobster with Trio of Cheese - $23
A bed of al dente pasta chifferini, baby spinach, tomato salsa & balsamic glaze lobster topped with melted cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan.

Made from scratch on order, diners are advised that this new star on the menu may require at least 20 minutes of preparation time. Despite looking exceedingly cheesy, this dish did not overwhelm. The entire combination wasn't overly creamy or heavy. And I really enjoyed it! The portion, though, might be a little small for some. I'll suggest maybe a side of crusty toast, or small salad to be served along with the mac and cheese.

Quack Quack Quesadilla - $20
The quesadillas that I've encountered have always had a soft tortilla skin. This was the only one that was crispy and crunchy. Sandwiched with shredded duck rillettes, bell peppers, Spanish onions  & mozzarella cheese, the quesadilla was simple and comforting but nothing to shout about.

Chilli Chocolate - $12
A great number of flavours and textures are assembled into this relatively well-executed plated dessert. The chocolate cake was infused with red chilli and had strips of red chilli present in them. However, the cake wasn't very well-infused as the taste of the chilli was only detectable towards the middle of the cake. I did like that light punch of spiciness when I finally scored a chunk that was infused well enough. And one of the things that I like best about this dessert was how the chocolate cake was brilliant when paired with the lemon curd. Along with roasted hazelnut rice puffs that packed an added crunch, milk chocolate chantilly and smoked sea salt, I would highly recommend this dessert. I had my reservations about this initially but when I was bursting at the seams, and still stuffing this down, it had to be good, didn't it?

Mango Chiboust - $10
The mango cream above the almond cake hardly carried any mango taste. It was way too mild. True that there was a side of mango passionfruit compote to go with it but the entire dessert didn't come together well and it paled quite terribly in comparison to the Chilli Chocolate

As with every new menu, there are kinks to be ironed out but I honestly think that the dinner menu is worth a shot!
