Helmed by Celebrity Chef Tan Yong Hua, Restaurant HOME at Rail Mall dishes out great fare in a homely setting. We had the opportunity to try some of their signature dishes and items from their set lunch menu

Barbecued Peking Duck with Lychee Wood - $38 / $68
My eyes lit up when this dish was served. I love roast duck and this was, needless to say, a winner for me. Crispy paper thin duck skin with delectable duck meat. I think I ate more than my fair share oops haha

Baked Marble Goby in Claypot with Chef Tan's in-house recipe - $9/100g
Almost everyone was full of praise for the baked marble goby. Interestingly baked instead of traditionally steamed, the baked marble goby was indeed tender and appetizing with the light savory sauce. However, it didn't have that melt-in-my-mouth texture that I was expecting

Homemade Egg Beancurd with Shrimp Paste, Crabmeat, and Roe (pi pa style) - $18
This was truly unique. The silky smooth texture of the beancurd was especially memorable and I was impressed by the gravy that the beancurd was doused in. I usually steer clear of gravies but the gravy complemented the beancurd pretty much flawlessly! I also loved the extra crunch that the water chestnut bits gave!

Deep-fried duck with Dried Chilli, Roasted Minced Garlic, Capsicum Pepper and Fine Salt - $10

The leftovers from the whole duck that we had earlier on were used to prepare this dish. But apart from being drier, and more flavourful, there's nothing to shout about

Soup of the Day (Boiled Dried Vegetables with Candy Dates, Wolfberry and Pork)- $20
Bursting with flavour but light on the palate, the soup was nutritious and comforting. The kind that you crave when you get home after a long day.

Stewed Golden Noodles with Lobster and Spring Onions wrapped in O Ba Leaf - Seasonal
Colourful and well-plated, the juicy lobster comes with golden noodles that are created from Chef Tan's own recipe. Certainly not the typical noodles we get elsewhere and noteworthily, without a trace of alkaline in them. A tantalizing combination of great noodles, yummy sauce and fresh lobster. Definitely one of my favourite dishes of this meal

The lunch sets available at Restaurant HOME comes in really generous portions and you might think that the price is a little steep, but you're really getting both quality and quantity and one set meal can even be adequately shared!

Chilled Rosella Jelly with Diced Mango
My friends will know that I have a thing against red food in general. Like I don't eat red fruits or red velvet or anything red in general so this looked absolutely like a nightmare to me and I hardly took a bite. Just not my kinda thing but everyone else finished theirs!
