Pondok Jawa Timur has moved a couple of times over the years and they are now at North Bridge Road. The restaurant prides itself in authentic Javanese fare and their meticulously prepared sauces.

Soto Madura - $6.50
I haven't actually had mee soto or anything along that line before. The closest I've had is probably mie bakso which isn't close at all haha. I was a little hesitant about trying the soup because I don't eat alot of things based on their colours. Eg: I don't eat red fruits. And the colour of the soup just looks dodgy to me. But I tried it and was surprised to find that it's actually very flavourful and tasty!

Tahu Telor - $6.90
The highlight for me is definitely the peanut sauce. The peanut sauce here is homemade and they have three different types of it to go with different dishes.

Gado Gado - $6.90
As a carnivore, I steered clear of the vegetables and attacked the keropok. I dipped them in the light peanut sauce and got hooked almost instantly. I started stealing the keropok quietly when everyone was deeply engaged in conversation or trying the other dishes haha. The sweet peanut sauce was so yummy!

Sate Ayam - $8.90
My favourite dish of the lot is probably the tender and well marinated satay. Really addictive with the peanut sauce which is the nuttiest of the three we've tasted

Mie Goreng Jawa - $6.90
Unlike the dry mee goreng we have usually, this is moister and certainly one of the better mee gorengs I've had!

Ayam Penyet - $6.90
The chicken was very crispy but I felt that it was a tad too dry. This is one of the more familiar dishes to me, as I've never actually had Javanese food before, so I expected it to blow me away but I was slightly disappointed

Curry Fish Head- $32.90
One of the signature items at the restaurant, I was secretly pleased that this wasn't that spicy. Instead of coconut milk, fresh milk is employed in this dish. The different flavours melded well and I really enjoyed it!

If you're looking to try authentic Javanese food, you should definitely make a trip here! Also, it was full house when we were about to leave so do make a reservation!
