Christmas is coming! Everyone's favourite time of the year is finally almost here. Think feasts, giant turkeys, gatherings, gifts and just happiness in the air... I can't wait! And there's absolutely nothing more important than pampering your palates, don't you think! And that's exactly what STREET 50 plans to do!
For only four days, on 24, 25th, 31st December 2013 and 1st January 2014, STREET 50 brings you Glitter, a buffet that will impress and leave you craving for more. Boasting innovative creations that combine flavours of the East and West, and an extensive selection, this buffet will be well worth every penny!
Langoustine with Thai Pomelo Salsa
Langoustine, also known as Norway Lobster or scampi, is an ingredient that is commonly used in the West. In this dish, it is tossed with a spicy mix of juicy pomelo and Thai spices. The sweetness of the langoustine left a lasting impression and even though the salsa was mouth-numbingly spicy for me, I enjoyed every bit of it. What a great start to the meal!
Asparagus & White Fungus Barigoule
A twist from the traditional French style Artichoke Barigoule, here we have asparagus that is prepared with white wine, chopped up carrots and white fungus.
Oxtail with Guinness Stout & Espagnole Sauce
Extremely tender oxtail that comes with a thick and savoury gravy that is infused with port wine and Guinness stout. I was amazed at how flavourful the gravy was! And it left this lingering sweet aftertaste with a hint of bitterness. You'll definitely want a second serving of this!
Tandoori Turkey Breast
Ever had a dry turkey and wish that the meat was moister and softer? Here at STREET 50, the tandoori turkey breast is cooked perfectly. Although breast meat is used, I was surprised at how tender the meat was and how it wasn't dry at all. The tandoori turkey breast is accompanied by a mint and cucumber raita that was quite honestly, refreshing and really good. This is my first time having raita and I guess I have been missing out on quite alot the past 23 years. I brought along my buddy who's an Indian, and he completely cleaned out
the raita. Mine, and his. Two bowls. And he couldn't get enough of it
and he said it's really one of the best raita he's ever had. Got to
trust him, don't you! Everyone went for seconds and there's no denying everyone loved it!
Bread & Butter Pudding with Ginger, Longan & Vanilla Brandy Sauce
Soft bread with a crispy and fragrant outer layer that is soaked in warm semi-sweet vanilla brandy sauce with a hint of ginger. Many might not like the subtle taste of the ginger but I felt that it added a unique twist that is actually very likeable.
Durian Trifle
For those who have tried the durian pengat here, you would know that any durian dessert that is rolled out of STREET 50 is a must try. The durian trifle is rich in taste, but it doesn't overwhelm. I was so full but I couldn't stop attacking this dish haha. Sweet durian custard and durian pulp atop soft layered sponge... mhmm drooling yet?
Other irresistable highlights of the buffet are seafood on ice, foie gras dumpling soup, roasted lamb leg, mussel bourguignon, seafood paella, live barbecue station and crepe suzette.
I know the lighting isn't very flattering but you can trust my words, and my tastebuds! Haha
Now, the important part that everyone has been waiting for!
