Tiong Bahru Bakery

Tiong Bahru Bakery has taken our sunny island by storm. Everyone seems to be really crazy over it! I've seen numerous tweets and photos on Instagram about TBB and this place seems to be a household name now. X and I put off visiting this place because we were kinda waiting for the hype to die down so that it wouldn't be so crowded when we visit. We decided to visit one random day, only to see for ourselves that this place is probably gonna be packed for a long time to come

PACKED.

X and I didn't order much because we were going for a food tasting session later in the evening. So we decided to just take 3 pastries. We've heard alot about their croissants, but... we did not try it HAHA I don't know why but I guess the other items just appealed more to us

Photobucket
Iced Cappuccino - $7.50

At $7.50, the cappuccino is pretty pricey. No doubt that it was good, but it's still a little expensive

Photobucket
Pear Almond Tart - $6.50

The pear almond tart tasted like mooncake, topped with slices of pear.
The taste of the mooncake-like tart just didn't go very well with the pear.
This was pretty disappointing

Photobucket
Kouign Aman - $3.50

This was my favourite out of the three! And I actually, really liked it! It's sweet, and very slightly salty. It also has a unique texture that I adore. X didn't feel the same way about it and thought it was just alright. I guess I have a soft spot for buttery sweet things haha

Photobucket
Lemon Tart - $6

The lemon curd was quite overwhelmingly sour so we didn't really like it but we thought the tart shell was nice!

Even though the place was packed, the staff were very polite and patient in serving. If the bakery is always this packed, I guess this place is not ideal for a long period of stay. Be prepared to eat and go. The pastries didn't wow us like we thought they would but I guess we may be back to try more of their stuff in future.

The Manhatten Pizza Co.

Invited Food Tasting

Fancy a taste of the Empire State? Look no further than The Manhatten Pizza Co at Orchard Central! Located on B1, this eye-catching eatery is just steps away from the escalators.

Photobucket
It's kinda like a fast food concept so you order at the counter and you get your pizza!
If you order the 20-inch pizza, it will be delivered to your table!

Bjorn, the boss, welcomed us warmly and asked us what we will like to have but we told him to decide for us!

I was quite amazed at how Bjorn works in the kitchen and also serves the pizza to the customers with a huge smile on his face. He was super busy the whole night but whenever he could, he came to ask us for comments on the food. He's really nice and friendly!

Photobucket
NY wedges with curry sauce -$5
The curry sauce was not the least bit spicy but was sweet and tasty. It goes well with the mayonnaise. I probably was the only one who preferred this to the cheese wedges but I took a liking to the sweetness of the sauce!

Photobucket
NY wedges with cheese sauce -$5
The wedges were topped with a generous serving of smooth luscious cheese and mayonnaise. There's nothing not to like about this. Everyone was commenting on how amazing the cheese was. Fans of cheese and cheese fries, here's something you've to try! Also, don't you think that this box of wedges which costs only $5 is super value for money?

Photobucket
Original Buffalo Wings - $5.80
They were a little sweet and lack the spiciness of the usual buffalo wings but it suits me better since I can't really take chilli haha. But I guess Singaporeans being Singaporeans, would prefer a little spiciness to it

Photobucket
Our 20 inch pizza!!! - $42
(you can choose two flavours!)

Bjorn chose the two flavours for us! Roast Duck and Meat Lover. The two flavours that I secretly was hoping for HAHA. Guess he could read my mind somehow! Everyone was so excited about the pizza haha its ginormous!

Ooooohhh look at that

We were given these triangular cardboard "plates"

The Roast Duck pizza was created specially as a local flavour for Singaporeans!
The slice of pizza was really huge and it was quite difficult eating it because the pizza was too heavy to be held up haha. Anyway, I really loved the roast duck pizza! It's awesome! The chunks of yummy duck meat together with the melted cheese and soft pizza crust... It just doesn't get any better than this! We were quite intrigued by how the crust, despite being thin could be soft on the inside and just a little crisp on the out. Haha. X felt that the pieces of duck meat were not as warm as the pizza and preferred the Meat Lover. But everyone else really liked the Roast Duck pizza!

Photobucket Meat Lover
The Meat Lover is topped with four different kinds of meat. It was definitely the pizza for me considering what a carnivore I am haha. Couldn't wait to chomp on it! Every mouthful was meat-full! Unfortunately, a few slices of pizza had their crust really burnt

The 7 of us were exceedingly full after the meal. Everyone was full of praise for the duck pizza and the cheese wedges! If the 20-inch pizza is too huge for you and your crew, you can check out their combos! With eight different combos available, there's bound to be one for you! Think a slice of pizza plus a soft drink for only $5.90. It's insane!!!

We suggest sitting further away from the kitchen because the smell from all the cooking and baking can get quite overwhelming.

A huge serving of delectable and mouthwatering pizza at an extremely pocket-friendly price, we're guessing that this place is gonna be very packed really soon! If you're in town and you're looking for a place for dinner, do visit The Manhatten Pizza Co!

We'll like to thank Bjorn for having us and for bringing a taste of New York to Singapore [:

Wimbly Lu

After dinner at The Cajun Kings, we headed to Wimbly Lu, which was located right next door, for desserts! It was around 10 when we got there and they were closed despite the signage saying that they close at 10.30. So we tried our luck and just went in anyway. The very nice lady at the counter told us that we could dine in if we promised to leave by 1030. So here we go!

Everything on the menu is extremely affordable!
I had a really hard time deciding what to have.
I wanted to try the chocolate creme brulee, the hazelnut butterscotch bar, and the bread and butter pudding. It was a very very tough decision. And we didn't have the luxury of time to try a few so we only ordered an item each

Photobucket
Dark Chocolate Truffle and Champagne Truffle - $2 each
I've heard very good things about the chocolate here. And I LOVE TRUFFLES. So they were a must-try! The truffles were good, but they didn't really make me go wow. But I thought it was value for money

Photobucket
Root Beer Cake with Vanilla Icecream - $6
The soft root beer cake carried a subtle root beer taste that really grows on you with every bite. We really liked it! It was quite addictive haha. Root beer float lovers, you have to try this!

Photobucket Molten Lava Cake - $6
A mountain load of lava encased in a thin but crisp layer of cake. The sight of the lava oozing out made me very happy hahaha. There was too little cake for the amount of lava but this was certainly a delight! Love the feeling of warm chocolate lava rolling on my tongue haha

Our order was overlooked so the molten lava cake took about 20 minutes to arrive but it was well worth the wait. Although I was a little panicky because we were supposed to leave by 1030 haha. The staff were all quite friendly and the place is pretty and homely! I'll definitely be back to try more items! If only it wasn't so far away...

Looking for affordable and yummy desserts? Wimbly Lu is the place for you!

The Cajun Kings

Located in Jalan Riang, The Cajun Kings is not easily accessible. It is best if you drive. Parking is available in the estate but do be careful as the traffic officer seems to be quite vigilant

X loves seafood and so he was naturally excited about having dinner here. And I was told that the food here is awesome so I was excited too!

The place was packed when we got there. I was quite disappointed with the service because I stood at the door for what seemed like at least 5 minutes before someone attended to me. And it wasn't as if none of the waiters saw me...

After acknowledging my presence, they took a really long time to find my reservation and trying to allocate me a table when there was actually only one available table. So I really wasn't sure what they were doing so I walked about outside and snapped some pictures before I returned to that one table allocated to us.

Photobucket
Buttermilk frog legs - $15
This tasted like tender fried chicken. And we didn't really find anything special about it.

Photobucket
Fish and Chips - $12
We liked the fish! The texture was really good and the portion was pretty huge

Photobucket
Pork Belly - $7
We were told that the pork belly have been marinated for a really long time and would be very flavourful and so we decided to try it

We were disappointed when the dish arrived. It wasn't exactly flavourful as we were told. It was oily and salty. There just wasn't anything to rave about

Photobucket
Red Sea Prawns in Kings Mix Level 1 (250g) - $22.50
The prawns were really fresh and juicy! The Kings Mix was a tad too spicy for us and the garlic was overwhelming and stinging. But we liked the prawns nonetheless. Garlic lovers would love this!

Photobucket French Baguette - $3
We ordered this to dip it in the Kings Mix.

I liked the tartar sauce and the salt+ pepper+ lime mixture. The waiter was very patient in recommending the dishes to me. It was interesting dining here as we were to eat without utensils and we had to put on aprons. Thank God for the aprons or my shirt would have blots of Kings mix on them. It was definitely a different dining experience.

Overall, it was quite a pricey meal that didn't quite satisfy.
