Epicurious (The Quayside)

It was an extremely bad afternoon for us as we travelled to Five & Dime to find that it was closed, then to Toby's Estate to find that their brunch has ended, then to eM by the river to find that their brunch has ended too. And finally, we decided to go to Epicurious even though we both never enjoyed the food on our previous visits. However, we were pretty much left with no choice. We really wanted to have poached eggs and breakfasty items.

So here we were, at Epicurious.
It was pretty packed and we didn't want to sit indoors due to a really strong smell of oil. So we stood around waiting for a table.

We were really disappointed to hear that they've ran out of poached eggs. But we weren't in the mood to travel anymore.
We waited for about 30minutes for our food after we placed our orders.

Two Eggs, scrambled or fried - $8 + $2.50(salmon) + $3.50(sausages)
X added smoked salmon and sausages to the dish. Everything about this dish was pretty average, nothing fantastic.

Baked eggs with Toast soldiers, with ham - $14.60
I ordered this and I really regretted. The baked eggs had a top layer of cheese crust which was pretty burnt and hard. All I could taste was bitterness. I thought it was supposed to be baked till it's gooey? I wasn't able to taste any tomato that I suppose was to sweeten this dish up, alongside the bitter eggyolk and burnt cheese, the whole thing was just bitter to me. I finished the bread, potato and green apples and left about half the baked eggs uneaten.

The prices are pretty affordable but honestly, I don't think that their food is tasty. I've been here before with a couple of friends for lunch. They also felt that the food was not too good. And X had tried the Epicurious at Railmall and he didn't quite like the food there either.. Service was okay, it can be quite difficult to get the attention of the staff though. Parking is available at the Gallery Hotel or by the road a short walk away.

It's quite a good place to chill and people-watch on a lazy weekend afternoon but it sure can get a little too warm. If you're visiting, don't have too high an expectation of their food.

  1. the egg burritos is the next must-order item if the egg benedict (only available on weekend) is out during weekend, i was there on a weekday brunch before 12pm, food was quite good and it seemed they took their time to prepare it nicely :) try it on weekday if not for egg benedict only.

    1. Oh! I didn't know their egg burritos was a popular item. Should have tried it. Haha thanks for the tip! But I doubt I'll come back here if I have a choice.
