Drips Bakery Cafe

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon but we still decided to go for brunch (:

Iced chocolate - $6

Usually I'll opt for hot chocolate and X will take coffee. But today I ordered a latte instead and knowing that I'd wanna try the chocolate still, X got the iced chocolate. Such a sweetiepie hahaha.
Anyway, the iced chocolate was impressive! We loved it. The one time that I chose coffee over chocolate, the chocolate had to be so good haha.

Photobucket
my latte - $4.80
We didn't think that the latte was very impressive. Just average.

Photobucket
USA Black Forest ham with scrambled eggs served with grilled seasonal veggie and freshly baked alpine grain and cranberry toast -$15.80

Photobucket
big piece of ham

Photobucket
The alpine toast was yummy and fragrant! Apart from the huge portion of grilled vegetables that we didnt really fancy, this dish was good!

Photobucket
Norwegian salmon croissant - $11.80

Veggie lovers should definitely visit Drips. Look at the portion of veggies that they give! But unfortunately for me, I don't eat veggie and spent quite some time taking them out haha.

Photobucket
X thought that the floating coffee behind was cool -_- What a kid.
Haha the croissant was pretty normal. But I had extra ingredients (egg and ham) from X's dish!

Photobucket
Cinnamon pear tart - $6.80
We like the crust and the mixture of pear and cinnamon. Unique and pleasant.

Photobucket

Overall Drips is good place for brunch and the food is pretty good! Parking lots are readily available just a short walk away and you can even park right outside the cafe! Also, the loathsome 10% service charge is absent in their billing. Hurray for that! There were many customers who bought their cakes and such but we were too full to try them. Maybe next time! (:

One Caramel

We headed to One Caramel for dessert after brunch one day!

Photobucket

Photobucket

One Caramel is located on the second level and we had pretty high expectations of the design of the place. I mean, that should be quite a huge space and we thought it'd be really grand and pretty! I guess we thought wrong. The dining area is really small and can only fit about 5 tables.

We were pretty full so we only ordered one dessert. We had "Death by Chocolate"

with dark chocolate sorbet.

Photobucket

We were really disappointed. The molten cake was too dry and the taste just wasn't right. The only saving grace for this dessert was the dark chocolate sorbet which was pretty good in my opinion. We aren't sure if we'll head back there for brunch or their cakes but I'm not exactly keen to go back there again. Do share your experiences at One Caramel! Maybe we just ordered the wrong dessert. Maybe we should have gotten the chocolate souffle instead.

De Burg

"BURGERS ARE NOT FAST FOOD! " - De Burg

I like this tag line and its definitely true for the burgers they offer at the stall. As you can probably guess, Burgers are their specialty. Found in a corner of a coffee shop at block 10 Ghim moh road, this western food stall can really make a burger.
Photobucket
De burg's signage

Photobucket
A beeper that they use to page for you once your food is ready for collection! cool.

Void of the class and comfort of a restaurant, De burg more than makes up for it with value and taste. Their beef patties were outstanding, juicy and succulent. Its hard to find this type of stall in a coffee shop serving such good quality patties. Their chunky fries were pretty good as well. Just look at the burgers below!

Bacon cheese burger SGD $9.65

I would say if you are super hungry and want a good burger, this is the place to go. For less than $20, you can get a burg that's definitely value for money. Try it.

De La Creme

Nestled in the heart of Siglap and Frankel Estate is De La Creme. A hidden gem not too faraway from the bustling East Coast Road. The Star managed to park his car along a road near De La Creme and we made our way swiftly to the surprise destination that he had planned(yes, again haha)

We were greeted with warm smiles and friendly service when we entered the shop.

Mogador

When I first saw the Mogador, I was pretty sure I wanted that until I read that there was raspberry inside ):

So I took a look at the rest

1) Mont Blanc, a cake topped with chestnut cream. (Their newest addition)
2) Ispahan, it looks really amazing.Think raspberries, rose macaron shell and lychees
3) Mango Shortcake
4) Lemon Meringue Tart

After a long while, I decided on the Lemon Meringue Tart. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations of it.

Photobucket

Here's my lemon meringue tart which surprised me. The meringue was really delectable. It wasn't too sweet like other meringues and the texture was really amazing. Digging my fork into the tart, I realised that there is a layer of hard crust as its border and the inside is incredibly soft. The stark contrast was pleasant. Next up, I tackled the lemon curd waiting patiently for me. The lemon curd is refreshingly sour with just the right amount of sweet ring to it. Never thought I'd fall in love with a meringue tart but I did.

The Mogador was impressive. The smooth chocolate mousse and ganache melts right in your mouth and at that moment you'll just go "hmmmm" Haha. It was really delicious! I really liked it. It's a pity that there's raspberry inside as I don't take berries. The Star was sweet enough to choose the Mogador as he knew that I'd want to try the chocolate [: Hehe.

Another thing I'll like to highlight about De La Creme is the service crew! They took time to explain to us what the different cakes contain and personally came over to our table to ask how the cakes were and such. They were constantly smiling and were friendly throughout our entire visit. Such lovely people (:

De La Creme has been around for only 3 months but they have surely made a mark for themselves. Their delicious macarons and cakes have attracted many and gained them lots of fans. You would think that they only serve sweet things like cakes and macarons but they have brunch too! I'll love to try their brunch out except for the fact that Siglap is really far away ):

Do check out De La Creme and let us know what you think!

ARDENT'S Cafe Bar

I was racking my brains as to where to go for brunch the following day on a Friday night. And The Star went "I'll bring you somewhere you've never heard of, if not I'll swallow my iphone" And I was like... "Don't exaggerate!!" Hahaha. When we were in the car, I was like "DUXTON RIGHT WE CONFIRM GOING TO DUXTON" Haha true enough, we were heading to Duxton, except that he did not turn into Duxton Hill or Duxton Road.. I thought he was trying to con me. Maybe make a u-turn of something HAHA.

He turned into a carpark near Neil Road and took out the street directory and said "Wait, I need to find the way" And I was like .. idiot don't even know the way HAHAHA. But it was all a ploy we were supposed to get off there!

He led the way along a pretty narrow pavement right by the road and I was really clueless to where we were heading, till he stopped and said "here we are!"

Photobucket

Kudos to him, I've really never heard of ARDENT'S before. ARDENT'S is a new restaurant that has only been in operation for a couple of weeks.

Question: What are the 3 words that get you excited on this chalkboard?
Answer: ALL-DAY BREAKFAST.

When I saw the outdoor seating area, I was like WOW. This is pretty amazing. But it was too hot to sit outdoors.

My rosti with cheese sausage and turkey ham! $9.80

The rosti was not too bad. The savoury turkey ham and cheese sausage were good choices to go with the plain rosti. The price is also pretty reasonable. The sour cream that they gave was of pretty good quality but it wasn't sour enough. You rarely see rosti served at brunch places do you! Get your dosage of rosti at ARDENT'S instead of Marche!

Photobucket

Photobucket
The Star's Eggs Benedict(as usual) - $13.80

The portion was a tad too small and the eggs were overcooked ): When poached eggs aren't runny, The Star gets upset..

I like the design of Ardent's. Especially the outdoor seating area. I can imagine how pretty it will be at night! The Star felt that it was too dark indoors for brunch haha. Maybe it was dark as it was the halloween weekend? I don't know but I felt it was alright.

Another plus point about Ardent is that the service staff are pretty smiley and I like people who smile warmly at me haha. When we got up to leave, one of them approached us and asked how the food was. I think it is really nice of them to take personal interest in their customers' experience.

Overall, I'd recommend Ardent's for a weekend brunch! Go check out their lovely outdoor area which will be perfect for dinner I believe.
